Bells:

1.  Roll out enough clay for 2 bells so that both are the same thickness when done rather than rolling and cutting out one bell at a time.  Cover the one bell with plastic wrap and work on the other bell.  Roll out the gumpaste.  To make the textured-effect:  Just roll the clay out on a piece of textured rubber that is usually used for opening jars which can be found in the kitchen sections of an department store.  Rubber mats can also be used.

2.  Make the attached ruffle using the foot tool and gently press the tool downward into the clay and then outward toward the edge of the clay, and finally, off the edge of the clay.

Picture is of the beginnings of a bib.  However, we will be working on bells using the same technique.

2.  Use a flower cutter with petals and press into the clay.  Use the foot tool to make an indentation at each inside point as shown in the picture to the left.  Then, use a tool with a curved end and press in underneath each petal and "bring the petal up and out of the clay".

3.  Make a circle of stamens in the center of the petal.  Use the curved tool to press down on top of the each petal to make the inside tip of the petal that touches the stamens go downward slightly and the back of the petal to lift upward a bit more to give shape and character to the flower petal.

1.  After the flower has been formed, use a cuticle pusher (metal) that has a curve and smooth the section underneath the clay (gumpaste or fondant).

2.  Make the leaves using the same method as the flower petals.

3.  Tint all the leaves and flowers with petal dust using an artist's brush.

After the flower (with or without the leaves - your choice) has been made, tint the edges of the ruffles and the flower petals with petal dust.  Then, gently, dust the inside of the stamens with yellow petal dust.

Plaque:

Roll out a piece of fondant or gumpaste large enough to completely cover the cardboard circle and enable the sides of the circle to also be covered with some excess that can be folded over to the back of the circle.  Place the a cardboard circle on top of the fondant or gumpaste and flip over the cardboard circle.  Lay these items onto the work surface enabling the top cardboard to be placed downward touching the work surface.  Gently, scrape off the excess fondant or gumpaste.  Life these items all at once and carefully turn them over so that the uncovered "top" cardboard is upward, again.  Remove this uncovered cardboard.  Place the bottom of the covered circle onto the work surface.

Use the shell-like tool that has ridges and press down into the fondant/gumpaste at the inside, outter edge of the plaque.  (See picture).  Use impression tools and mini petal cutters or heart cutters to create a design all around the "inner edge" of the shell impression.

Take a round, scalloped cutter and place it in the center of the fondant/gumpaste.  Press down to make a cut into the fondant/gumpaste.  Take a curved tool and place the tip of the curve underneath a scallop to cut into and lift up the scallop (see picture).  Now, Take the foot tool and gently create the ruffle by  pressing the tool downward into the clay and then outward toward the edge of the clay, and finally, off the edge of the clay.  Use a metal, cuticle pusher to smooth the section underneath the ruffled scallop.  Repeat the method until there is a ruffle on each of the scallops.  At the inward portion of the ruffle use a needle-like, pointed tool to create the stitches all around the inside, edge of the ruffles.  Use impressions tools to create a design all around the inside portion of the ruffle which would be between the center of the plaque and the stitches on the plaque.

Place the dried bells onto the plaque and glue into place with a dab of royal icing.  Make a bow of bridal ribbon and glue into place.  Use some royal icing to glue the flowers into place.  Glue a ribbon around the outter edge of the covered, cardboard circle.

Cut out eight bells, make the popup flowers, tint the flowers, tint the ruffle and place the bells equally around the sides of the cake.  (See picture).  Cut out some hearts and place them inbetween each bell.
A bridal ribbon, which is a bit wider than the bridal ribbon on the plaque, has been glued into place around the edge of the foil-covered cardboard.  Note:  Five circles have been glue together so that there is a nice thick edge to glue the ribbon into place.
