Gum Paste Baby Dress
Original Sketch, Layout & Editing by Diane Shavkin NY

1)    Make a pattern of the dress.  Leave off the sleeves.
2)    Place the template on the rolled-out piece of gumpaste.
3)    Cut out the gumpaste.  Pinch the edges of the gumpaste dress with fingers in order to eliminate the "square edges".
4)    Cut out a circle and cut in half.  (Each half will be formed into a dress sleeve.  Use a circle cutter that will give you the  size desired.
5)    Form each half circle into a cone shape with a small opening at the section where the cone would normally make a point.  (This opening is where the sleeve will attach to the dress.)
6)    Glue the sleeve to the dress with water or gum arabic glue (1/3 gum arabic and 2/3 water).  Let dry.

Decoration suggestions:  Make ruffles out of royal icing on the sleeves, bottom of dress and neckline.  Make royal icing drop flowers or gumpaste flowers for the buttons.  Make a royal icing bow or gumpaste bow and attach to the neckline.  Have the ribbon streamers flow down and over the buttons.  Add royal icing beading to the area where the ruffles and gumpaste meet.  Gumpaste decorations:  Press a piece of lace onto the gumpaste to create impressions.  Make ruffles directly from the gumpaste.  Make button shapes or flowers for the "buttons".  Add a gumpaste bow.  Pipe on royal icing beading.
