Draw an umbrella or print and enlarge this one. Note: The umbrella sketch may be cut and pasted into another program to enlarge the pattern to desired size. Cut out a square with the umbrella pattern in its center because space must be around the outer edges of the pattern. Place the pattern on a curved shape sucha as a soda bottle. Size of the bottle or jar should be the appropriate size for the desired umbrella pattern. Tape the pattern to the glass container. Tape clear cellophane to the pattern. Use the sized, round tip as desired that is appropriate for the size of the umbrella to be piped and pipe the outside shape of the umbrella first. Let dry. Pipe the lattice work. Two layers might be needed to give strength to the lattice work. Let dry. Use a small star tip to pipe a delicate shell border or rose drop flowers ontop of the dried piped line and lattice work ends. Let dry thoroughly - at least 3 days. (Do just the "umbrella" section of the umbrella pattern with the lattice design.) When, the umbrella is thoroughly dried, very gently and carefully remove the royal icing umbrella from the jar. Gently, pipe a delicate ruffle onto the bottom section of the umbrella. Let dry. Pipe a handle underneath the umbrella right onto the cake in buttercream. Put the umbrella in place. Pipe the top "point" of the umbrella onto the umbrella. More than one umbrella may be used on the cake. Place the umbrella(s) at an angle(s) to create a nice line to the design. A butter cream or previously piped royal icing bow may be added to the handle of the umbrella. Add/pipe the other decorations and borders. |
